Games to Collect, and Games to Play

Board games, Parker Brothers, collectibles Contack, are A Million, PIT

How many times have you driven down that road to that place you were going, only to drive by a tag sale, and wonder "Did I just pass by something good." My glance is attuned to certain colors and shapes that denote age.  The neighborhood or age of the home often has little bearing on a sale's potential.

It was during one of those trips I was making on a Sunday morning that a sign on a phone pole caught my eye. A typical tag sale with a few tables and a ground cloth with an assortment of items.  I noticed some old small box card-based games.

It may remind you of a college drinking game where a number of suits of cards are dealt to as many players. At the word "Go!" players pass a card to the right until they have 4 of a kind. This first one out makes a signal and the last player to notice has to drink. PIT is more tame and instead of passing cards, player trade 1 or more card to each other willy-nilly until you have collected all the cards of your chosen commodity. The times we have played it with friends it is a laugh riot. Try it.

I may have also believed that with the success of PIT anything else would be as enjoyable. "Make a Million" is played similar to bridge, a game that is just lost on me. Unfortunately, I haven't played this game for that reason, but it is complete and from 1945.

Rounding out the stack of games was my final game purchase: Contack.
Board games, Parker Brothers, collectibles Contack, are A Million, PITThis game is fun and can be played by as many as 2 -7, but is really best with no more than 3. The object is to match colors with numbers that equal multiples of "5", or, in order to keep from losing a turn the numbers can match, though no points are scored. The first one to use all their pieces is the winner. These games are collectible because they are rare, especially those in good condition (complete and playable).

Keep an eye out for these - many are as much fun to play as they are to collect.
